Welcome to the Accountability Wiki Whiteboard!

A place for the Accountability Wiki community to hold discussions on ideas, articles, policies, or any other relevant topics.

Judgment criteria?

Should we add some 'judgment' criteria to each article? We can choose a set of yes/no/maybe criteria points and add those to each organization, resulting in some sort of general judgment for their behavior; we can add it as a template and present the question-answer pairs with some icon for the results. As an example, I think we can have criteria similar to this:

  • Closed or reduced capacity in stores [early/timely/late/no/invalid]
  • Provided extended sick leave to employees [yes/no]
  • Provided safety equipment to employees [yes/no/invalid]
  • Provided full salaries to employees [yes/no]
  • Provided full salaries to contractors [yes/no]

etc...? Thoughts? Mooeypoo (talk) 07:21, 3 April 2020 (MSK)

Could a template be made that would make it quick to see these answers at a glance? Maybe with color coding or something? DeathKitten (talk) 07:31, 3 April 2020 (MSK)
Definitely possible; we can technically try and make it automatically color-code things, too. The question is.. can we settle on a good starting list, do you think? We could, potentially, have different lists for different types of organizations, but I think we can start with a starter list and see how it goes? Mooeypoo (talk) 08:03, 3 April 2020 (MSK)
I like the idea of an easy criteria in a template. I wonder if there's a metric to add for business size to offer context. A medium size business or even large business struggling is useful context when considering if they were forced to do layoffs. --Varnent (talk) 08:24, 3 April 2020 (MSK)
Size as well as critical business status should both factor in. A small business laying people off isn't surprising, a grocery store or delivery service failing to allow PPE and provide paid leave is a safety hazard to their customers — just for a couple examples. This wiki is still being built - ideas?

This wiki is still under construction. So first, I should note that some things may behave oddly at first, and some things may oddly change (like the timestamps of signatures or structure of discussion pages). I greatly appreciate everyone's patience and also welcome any additional support on the wiki's technical development. There are some easy to act on ideas that we will begin implementing this weekend, and a few pie in the sky ideas. Without disclaimering more, here is a list of a few ideas bouncing around:

  • Set up TweetANew extension to send out article update and creation tweets with a ping to organization's Twitter account
  • Mobile app to report tips
  • Completing WikiShare extension to better integrate social sharing methods
  • List or featuring organizations more on homepage
  • Improvements to search so it is easier to find organizations
  • Integrate some advocacy tools to help get support for organizations

Do folks have any feedback on these ideas or additional ideas? Anything you wish this wiki could technically do? Some ideas may not be possible, but some might be easier than you think. Be creative and be bold! --Varnent (talk) 08:31, 3 April 2020 (MSK)

How do we group institutions from another country?

Considering the variety of people that can integrate this community, how are we organizing institutions from different countries? Are we going to use only categories? Should we apply this to templates somehow?

I know that languages is a huge step and out of scope right now, so this is not the scope of this question as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSocialDev (talkcontribs)

@TheSocialDev: Great question! I think we can use categories and also this infobox template to help track that. I am open to other ideas on how we could do it though - maybe some wikipages that show the categories entries? --Varnent (talk) 05:23, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Code of Conduct

I invited any feedback folks might have on Accountability Wiki's Code of Conduct. Please feel free to leave your comments here or on the code's talk page. Thank you! --Varnent (talk) 21:11, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Is there a way to use Wikidata as a client? It might be helpful to use data from Wikidata rather than copying it and trying to keep it up to date. 🍠 (talk) 19:34, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

@🍠: Good question. I will look into this more. Would you be able/willing to help with coding wikibase into the templates? I will admit that is an area I am less familiar with personally. :) --Varnent (talk) 19:36, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@Varnent: I can certainly try. At a minimum I think specifying the Wikidata id in the Wikibase template functions is better than nothing. 🍠 (talk) 19:39, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@🍠: Fair point - I know Wikidata also has the Twitter handles and official websites we are entering as well. I am all for reducing workload by automating things. :) I wonder if there's other data we are collecting which could potentially feed into Wikidata. --Varnent (talk) 19:41, 23 April 2020 (UT
@Varnent:Yeah maybe we could make a generic template that would take in a param of the Wikidata id and spit out as much details about the company that are availble on there... 🍠 (talk) 19:42, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
